Free Audio Books for Test
Our Audio Books come in 2 formats. We offer free downloads to test these formats on your device(s):
- MP3 DRM-free which are almost universally compatible, and
- WMA-DRM Audio Book format for which there is a much larger number of audio books available as most publishers are still concerned about piracy without DRM
- Free Audio Books to Download for Testing
- Be sure to download the FREE Overdrive Media Console, required to download our audio, organize your chapters sequentially, and facilitate sync
- How to download MP3 DRM-Free Audio Books and sync to iPods, iPhones, Zunes, etc.
- How to download WMA-DRM Audio Books
- Free Audio Excerpts (under Excerpts Tab) on almost all our audio books for you to hear the narrator before purchase
- Compatibility Information on listening devices for both MP# and WMA formats: iPods, iPhones, Microsoft Zune, Creative Labs, Smart Phones, PDAs, etc.
At no charge to you, you can download a free audio book from our site to confirm it works with your device. We offer this as a service for our customers. These are live audio books for which we pay the publishers upon each download.
Also, where available we recommend the MP3 version (DRM-free) of the two that we carry in that it has almost no compatibility limitations. The MP3 audio books can easily be synchronized with iTunes, iPods, iPhones, smart phones, and almost all other listening devices. Currently, they cannot, however, be downloaded to Macs. We expect our partner to complete testing on Mac software some time in the autumn of this year.
Most of our audio books also have excerpts so that you can sample the narration. While the excerpts and the full MP3 versions of our audio books work on almost all devices, the WMA versions will not work on iPods or Zunes unless first burned to CD.
If you do not find your audio book selection in MP3, but find it in WMA instead, please be sure to check each WMA audio book Details Tab to learn about its copy and burning permissions as set by the publishers.

More a declaration of intent than memoir, this is Barack Obama defining himself and his vision. With this framework and Dreams from My Father - more of a memoir - I now have a much better picture of the Illinois Senator. You cannot help but fall for his vision. That vision, however, is motherhood and apple pie - representing even things his opponent wants in the current Presidential election. So I dissected this book and his other looking for substance and specifics. Unfortunately, they are not here. Senator Obama is a dreamer and a high level visionary. It becomes easy to see him as the nation's visionary, but not our President. To figure that one out, I'm forced to go to other sources. After listening to this audio book, I hope the substance is there because I like his story. Unfortunately, hope is not in and of itself a strategy...
Excerpt: From the bookPrologueIt’s been almost ten years since I first ran for political office. I was thirty-five at the time, four years out of law school, recently married, and generally impatient with life. A seat in the Illinois legislature had opened up, and several friends suggested that I run, thinking that my work as a civil rights lawyer, and contacts from my days as a community organizer, ...

This book is a continuation from a short story in an anthology called On the Prowl. I liked the characters - they seemed real for the most part. The girl had too many emotional issues and they dragged it a little too long in the book. The hero was both strong and sensitive. I thought the introduction of the witch to the story was a little silly, but overall, it worked out in the end. The book had a few snippets about Charles' father Bran, whose fascinating past and present was discussed briefly. Overall, the book is worth reading.

Not a chance. Kevin Phillips forecast what we're seeing right now (Sept 2008), and has a lot to say about what's to come...and what we can do to help ourselves.

This review is for the audiobook format of 'Double Cross' by James Patterson.
I have read this book in hard cover edition and had absolutely no problems
being thrown into the Detective Crime Fiction world of Alex Cross. The narrator Peter Hernadez
does a brilliant job at captivating the listener. Between the writing skills of Patterson and the voice
and emotion of Hernadez a truly great audiobook has been created. The Alex Cross series has been
one of my favorite to submerge into and any fan of crime, detectives, and non stop action would definetly be
missing out on one of the best. The audio format is also a good way for someone not quite sure of a book to
check it out with no effort required. Very convenient. Definetly recommended. whether you read Double Cross first
in the series or last you will not be disappointed.

The rise and rise of the Bin Laden family is one of the great stories of the twentieth century; its repercussions have already deeply marked the twenty-first. Until now, however, it is a story that has never been fully told, as the Bin Ladens have successfully fended off attempts to understand the family circles from which Osama sprang. In this the family has been abetted by the kingdom it calls home, Saudi Arabia, one of the most closed societies on earth. Steve Colls The Bin Ladens: An Arabian Family in the American Century is the groundbreaking history of a family and its fortune. It chronicles a young illiterate Yemeni bricklayer, Mohamed Bin Laden, who went to the new, oil-rich country of Saudi Arabia and quickly became a vital figure in its development, building great mosques and highways and making himself and many of his children millionaires. It is also a story of the Saudi royal family, whom the Bin Ladens served loyally and without whose capricious favor they would have been nothing. And it is a story of tensions and contradictions in a country founded on extreme religious purity, which then became awash in oil money and dazzled by the temptations of the West. In only two generations the Bin Ladens moved from a famine-stricken desert canyon to luxury jets, yachts, and private compounds around the world, even going into business with Hollywood celebrities. These religious and cultural gyrations resulted in everything from enthusiasm for Americaexemplified by Osamas free-living pilot brother Salemto an overwhelming determination to destroy it. The Bin Ladens is a meticulously researched, colorful, shocking, entertaining, and disturbing narrative of global integration and its limitations. It encapsulates the unsettling contradictions of globalization in the story of a single family who has used money, mobility, and technology to dramatically varied ends.
