Audio Books - Self Help and Inspirational - The Speech That Inspired the World
When Randy Pausch, a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon University, was asked to give a last lecture, he did not have to imagine it as his last - he had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. But the lecture he gave was not about dying. It was about the importance of overcoming obstacles, of enabling the dreams of others, of seizing every moment because time is all you have...
It was about living.

Made famous by his "Last Lecture" at Carnegie Mellon and the quick Internet proliferation of the video of the event, Pausch decided that maybe he just wasn't done lecturing. Despite being several months into the last stage of pancreatic cancer, he managed to put together this book. The crux of it is lessons and morals for his young and infant children to learn once he is gone. Despite his sometimescontradictory life rules, it proves entertaining and at times inspirational. Surprisingly, the audiobook doesn't include the reading of Pausch's actual "Last Lecture," which he gave on September 18, 2007, a month after being diagnosed. Erik Singer provides an excellent inflective voice that hints at the reveries of past experiences with family and children while wielding hope and regret for family he will leave behind. The first CD is enhanced with photos. Publishers Weekly.

Liberate yourself from cubicles and corporate handcuffs! "It's about time this book was written. It is a long-overdue manifesto for the mobile lifestyle, and Tim Ferriss is the ideal ambassador. This will be huge."
– Jack Canfield, co-creator of Chicken Soup for the Soul®
"If you want to live your dreams now, and not in 20 or 30 years, buy this book!"
– Laura Roden, Chairman of the Silicon Valley Association of Start-up Entrepreneurs
What do you do? Tim Ferriss has trouble answering the question. Depending on when you ask this controversial Princeton University guest lecturer, he might answer:“I race motorcycles in Europe.†“I ski in the Andes.†“I scuba dive in Panama.†“I dance tango in Buenos Aires.†He has spent more than five years learning the secrets of the New Rich, a fast-growing subculture who has abandoned the “deferred-life plan†(slaversaver retire) and instead mastered the new currencies — time and mobility — to create luxury lifestyles in the here and now. Whether you are an overworked employee or an entrepreneur trapped in your own business, this book is the compass for a new and revolutionary world. Guys are completely oblivious to the myriad hints and subtle indications of women who are dying to sleep with them, says Lowndes, who gives the lowdown on how guys can better execute their game by recognizing 26 different signals that women use to indicate potential sexual desire. Lowndes's underlying premise is that all women are desperately trying to get men's attentions whenever in public, but she really sticks to bars and clubs for her examples. Lowndes's writing style and voice do not help this audiobook. Her raspy and deep voice brings images of an older, cigarettesmoking woman, which is not a bad thing, but not particularly convincing to the audience (men who need to be convinced attractive women want them). While cheesy punch lines and excessive hyperbole may work well within the printed text, on audio these lines fall short and evoke eye rolls. A professional narrator might have overcome these inhibitors, but Lowndes's tone evokes the faux enthusiasm often encountered with salespeople. Publishers Weekly.

In previous audios, the author's serious and slowmoving lessons showed how being in the moment allows a connection with reality that is free from intellectual conventions, judgments, and restrictive characterizations. In this audio, Tolle says that conventional thoughts and worldly activities are "forms" that are useful in dealing with various elements of the real world but misleading when used to define ourselves. The highest value and most free expression of our unique selves can be found when we reject these forms as definitions of who we are. The author's profound spiritual wisdom and, in this recording, his endearing charm make his simple message arresting, enlightening, and potentially lifechanging. From AudioFile.

According to Tolle, who assumes the role of narrator as well, humans are on the verge of creating a new world by a personal transformation that shifts our attention away from our everexpanding egos. This idea is well realized through Tolle's remarkably wellpaced narration. Naturally, the author understands his material so thoroughly that he is able to convey it in an enjoyable manner, but Tolle's gentle tone and dialect begs his audience's attention simply through its straightforward approach. Something about this reading just seems profoundly important, whether one agrees with the material or not, and listeners' attention is sure to be captured within seconds of listening to Tolle's take on the universe in which we live. Originally released in 2005, both book and audiobook were reissued when Oprah Winfrey chose the title for her book club this year. Publishers Weekly.
