Perfectly haunting. Temperature dropped into the 30s (Fahrenheit) here the other night. Lit a fire, brewed some hot cocoa and sat down in my easy chair to read a chapter before heading off to bed. That was about 8:30. I didn't stop after a chapter. Think I finally went to bed about 1 with the covers pulled way over my head. And the locks on windows and doors were secure. I double-checked... A wonderful read!

"A startling and addictive Invasion of the Body Snatchers alien fest for the 21st century."
- USA Today, May 6, 2008
The acclaimed author of Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse returns with a novel for adults
Featuring what may be the first love triangle involving only two bodies, The Host is a riveting and unforgettable novel that will bring a vast new readership to one of the most compelling writers of our time.
I read the ebook version of this science fiction novel. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this. I prefered it to the Twilight Series. I liked the unusual relationship between Melanie and the alien and how they both ended up in love with the same boy. My only gripe is that I don't think its suitable for the teenage audience.

Readers can't get enough of the #1 New York Times bestselling author. A favor for Jason, vampire hunter Anita Blake's werewolf lover, puts her in the center of a fullblown scandal that threatens master-vampire Jean- Claude's reign—and makes her a pawn in an ancient vampire queen's new rise to power.
I can't say I enjoyed this latest urban fantasy/paranormal romance from the Anita Blake books. In this ebook, Anita gets elected to go with Jason to visit his dying father as his 'girlfriend' so his family will think he is straight and not gay or bisexual. What I didn't like about this book is that its more of a novella than a novel, its not up to the par of calling it suspense, there was no romance, and even Anita seemed to be falling short of being interesting. I expected more from Laurell K. Hamilton and unless her next book shows me more, I won't be buying, I'll be getting it from a library. Recommended only if you are a die hard fan of Anita or Jason because all the other characters from the Anita Novels are absent in this book.

Later, a kidney is needed for Kate, and Anna starts to have to idea of it and takes a lawsuit againts her parents. The ending's a bit sad, but the story's still wonderful.

Anansi is an Afrocaribbean Spider God who, like Coyote from Native America, likes to play tricks on mere humans. This is the story of his two sons, how they find each other and themselves. Along the way, they have to face challenges both in and of this world as well as another plane of meaning. Without the existentialism, its great fun, a terrific read and, like Gaiman\'s other books, surprising, innovative and very difficult to put down. A good book to start with this author.

Introducing a major literary talent, The White Tiger offers a story of coruscating wit, blistering suspense, and questionable morality, told by the most volatile, captivating, and utterly inimitable narrator that this millennium has yet seen. Balram Halwai is a complicated man. Servant. Philosopher. Entrepreneur. Murderer. Over the course of seven nights, by the scattered light of a preposterous chandelier, Balram tells us the terrible and transfixing story of how he came to be a success in life -- having nothing but his own wits to help him along. Born in the dark heart of India, Balram gets a break when he is hired as a driver for his village's wealthiest man, two house Pomeranians (Puddles and Cuddles), and the rich man's (very unlucky) son. From behind the wheel of their Honda City car, Balram's new world is a revelation. While his peers flip through the pages of Murder Weekly (""Love -- Rape -- Revenge!""), barter for girls, drink liquor (Thunderbolt), and perpetuate the Great Rooster Coop of Indian society, Balram watches his employers bribe foreign ministers for tax breaks, barter for girls, drink liquor (single-malt whiskey), and play their own role in the Rooster Coop. Balram learns how to siphon gas, deal with corrupt mechanics, and refill and resell Johnnie Walker Black Label bottles (all but one). He also finds a way out of the Coop that no one else inside it can perceive. Balram's eyes penetrate India as few outsiders can: the cockroaches and the call centers; the prostitutes and the worshippers; the ancient and Internet cultures; the water buffalo and, trapped in so many kinds of cages that escape is (almost) impossible, the white tiger. And with a charisma as undeniable as it is unexpected, Balram teaches us that religion doesn't create virtue, and money doesn't solve every problem -- but decency can still be found in a corrupt world, and you can get what you want out of life if you eavesdrop on the right conversations. Sold in sixteen countries around the world, The White Tiger recalls The Death of Vishnu and Bangkok 8 in ambition, scope, and narrative genius, with a mischief and personality all its own. Amoral, irreverent, deeply endearing, and utterly contemporary, this novel is an international publishing sensation -- and a startling, provocative debut.

Hailed for its coiled eroticism and the moral claims it makes upon the reader, this mesmerizing novel is a story of love and secrets, horror and compassion, unfolding against the haunted landscape of postwar Germany. When he falls ill on his way home from school, fifteen-year-old Michael Berg is rescued by Hanna, a woman twice his age. In time she becomes his lover--then she inexplicably disappears. When Michael next sees her, he is a young law student, and she is on trial for a hideous crime. As he watches her refuse to defend her innocence, Michael gradually realizes that Hanna may be guarding a secret she considers more shameful than murder. From the Trade Paperback edition.
"A formally beautiful, disturbing and finally morally devastating novel." Los Angeles Times

# 1 New York Times Bestseller “Author Sophie Kinsella is as witty as ever in Shopaholic & Baby”
— Redbook
"Kinsella’s ode to baby blues is both sly and slapstick.... [She] mines a rich vein by tweaking 21st-century glossy mag obsessions: from sonograms to the hottest baby strollers to tricked-out birthing rooms.”
— Publishers Weekly
Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood) is pregnant! She couldn’t be more overjoyed – especially since discovering that shopping cures morning sickness. Everything has got to be perfect for her baby: from the designer nursery . . . to the latest, coolest pram . . . to the celebrity, must-have obstetrician.
But when the celebrity obstetrician turns out to be her husband Luke’s glamorous, intellectual ex-girlfriend, Becky's perfect world starts to crumble. She’s shopping for two . . . but are there three in her marriage?
I read the ebook version of this chicklit novel. This book is hilarious yet quite poignant. I love all the shopaholic novels and I don't know how the author manages to keep going. I loved how she dealt with Becky's fears of being pregnant and having Luke's ex as her obstetrician was a stroke of genius. I can't want to read the next one.

The most anticipated sequel of the yearKen Follett has 90 million readers. The Pillars of the Earth is his bestselling book of all time. Now, 18 years after the publication of The Pillars of the Earth, Follett brings us the most anticipated sequel of the year: World Without End "A lively entertainment for fans of... The Lord of the Rings and other multilayered epics."
- Kirkus Reviews, Starred Review...
In 1989 Ken Follett astonished the literary world with The Pillars of the Earth, a sweeping epic novel set in twelfth-century England centered on the building of a cathedral and many of the hundreds of lives it affected. Critics were overwhelmed - "it will hold you, fascinate you, surround you" (Chicago Tribune) - and readers everywhere hoped for a sequel.
World Without End takes place in the same town of Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building the exquisite Gothic cathedral that was at the heart of The Pillars of the Earth. The cathedral and the priory are again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge, but this sequel stands on its own. This time the men and women of an extraordinary cast of characters find themselves at a crossroad of new ideas: about medicine, commerce, architecture, and justice. In a world where proponents of the old ways fiercely battle those with progressive minds, the intrigue and tension quickly reach a boiling point against the devastating backdrop of the greatest natural disaster ever to strike the human race - the Black Death.
The peasants are revolting. Some, anyway. Others—the good-hearted varlets, churls and nickpurses of Follett's latest—are just fine. In a departure from his usual taut, economical procedurals (Whiteout, 2004, etc.), Follett revisits the Middle Ages in what amounts to a sort of sequel to The Pillars of the Earth (1989). The story is leisurely but never slow, turning in the shadow of the great provincial cathedral in the backwater of Kingsbridge, the fraught construction of which was the ostensible subject of the first novel. Now, in the 1330s, the cathedral is a going concern, populated by the same folks who figured in its making: intriguing clerics, sometimes clueless nobles and salt-of-the-earth types. One of the last is a resourceful young girl—and Follett's women are always resourceful, more so than the menfolk—who liberates the overflowing purse of one of those nobles. Her father has already lost a hand for thievery, but that's an insufficient deterrent in a time of hunger, and a time when the lords were frequently away: at war, in Parliament, fighting lawsuits, or just attending on their earl or king." Thus the need for watchful if greedy bailiffs and tough sheriffs, who make Gwenda's grown-up life challenging. Follett has a nice eye for the sometimes silly clash of the classes and the aspirations of the small to become large, as with one aspiring prior who "had only a vague idea of what he would do with such power, but he felt strongly that he belonged in some elevated position in life." Alas, woe meets some of those who strive, a fact that touches off a neat little mystery at the beginning of the book, one that plays its way out across the years and implicates dozens of characters. A lively entertainment for fans of The Once and Future King, The Lord of the Rings and other multilayered epics. —Kirkus Reviews, Starred Review "A lively entertainment for fans of The Once and Future King, The Lord of the Rings and other multilayered epics." --Kirkus Reviews, Starred Review "Fans of Follett's previous medieval epic will be well rewarded" -- Publishers Weekly Reviews for World Without End and Ken Follett:

Soul-stirring - People Magazine (3 1/2 of 4 Stars)Absolutely read it - More Magazine "Just in case you're wondering whether Khaled Hosseini's A Thousand Splendid Suns is as good as The Kite Runner, here's the answer: No. It's better."
- Washington Post Book World
"Love may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you consider the war-ravaged landscape of Afghanistan. But that is the emotion - subterranean, powerful, beautiful, illicit, and infinitely patient - that suffuses the pages..."
- O, the Oprah Magazine
Propelled by the same superb instinct for storytelling that made The Kite Runner a beloved classic, A Thousand Splendid Suns is at once an incredible chronicle of thirty years of Afghan history and a deeply moving story of family, friendship, faith, and the salvation to be found in love.
Born a generation apart and with very different ideas about love and family, Mariam and Laila are two women brought jarringly together by war, by loss and by fate. As they endure the ever escalating dangers around them-in their home as well as in the streets of Kabul - they come to form a bond that makes them both sisters and mother-daughter to each other, and that will ultimately alter the course not just of their own lives but of the next generation. With heart-wrenching power and suspense, Hosseini shows how a woman's love for her family can move her to shocking and heroic acts of self-sacrifice, and that in the end it is love, or even the memory of love, that is often the key to survival. A stunning accomplishment, A Thousand Splendid Suns is a haunting, heartbreaking, compelling story of an unforgiving time, an unlikely friendship, and an indestructible love.

I read the ebook version of this chicklit novel. I continue to love this series. The contrast between Becky and her newly discovered sister is both hilarious and painful. The scene when Becky manages to get the musthave bag is also great. Once more she is forced to deal with the conciquences of her actions which she does. If I have a criticism its that Becky doesn't seem to grow, she continues to make the same mistakes. But other then that I love it. Bring on the next book.
