The fifth book in the series (I read as an ebook), hostage to pleasure focuses more on building the psy/changeling world.
No offense to the male lead Dorian, but I love the heroine, Ashaya. She was more fleshed out than Dorian. She had more depth to her that is not to say that Dorian didn't have his own pain. But here, we see Ms Singh serve up a heroine who truly can stand on her own. She makes her own plans and sticks by them. Dorian usually ends up setting up what Ashaya wants. Quite a good partnership, throw in some standard, I am man you belong to me thinking and you've got yourself a pretty good book. I read the ebook version of this paranormal romance. Finally, a tough, mature heroine. I found myself cheering Ashaya on. She's completely different to the other heroines in the series. I could believe in her. Dorian is more of a carbon copy of all the other heros in the books. Now, I like alpha males but this is the only type in these books. That gripe aside I loved it and I can't wait for the next one. Nalini Singh brings us another wonderful paranormal ebook in this part of her "Psy-Changeling" universe. Ashaya Aleine, a Psy scientist and single mother, falls in love with Dorian, a latent leopard changeling. Having lost his sister to a Psy attack, Dorian fights the attraction, but in the end, love triumphs. There is heat and suspense in this wonderful ebook. This paranormal romance ebook is a great read - but you should definitely have read the others in the series before picking it up. The action picks up right after the previous installment and thankfully Dorian's story is back on track and has the compelling quality that was present in the first and second book of the series. (I found Clay's book, the one directly preceding this one, to be a bit blah). The hints we get of Mercy's story make it hard to wait for her book - thankfully it is next! I enjoyed this paranormal romance although my favorite by far is still the first in the series, Slave To Sensation, which is unfortunately not offered as an ebook at this time. Dorian and Ashaya match each other well. Dorian loves her son as does Ashaya, who has to pretend that she doesn't because she is Psy, of course. I enjoyed the pack dynamics of the cat shifters as well as the Psy rebellion boiling to the surface. A truly original plot device was the twin sister mirroring the dark net. I loved how this book ended and I will definitely read the next. Awesome book. The storyline was well thought out. The characters were believable and perfect for the book. I ave always admired Dorian for going so far without being able to shift. It was inevitable that he end up mated to a Psy, his greatest enemy in his mind. Ashaya was such a strong character, she was great to watch as she stayed loyal to her family and tried to keep everything safe. I loved this book. If you have not read this series you are totally missing out run out and get the first book, Slave to Sensation. I couldn't put this one down! This book is Dorian and Ashaya's story which made me alternate crying and biting my nails - it was that good! Can't wait for the next book in this series. It was a compelling book with strong characters with heartstopping scenes and it gave answers as to why Dorian was latent previously. The end result when Dorian could change was so moving it brought tears to my eyes. Ashaya Aleine was separated from her son, forced to create a neural implant that will forever enslave her psychically gifted Psy race. After fighting a desperate battle to save her child and escape the PsyNet, she's lead not to safety, but into the lethal danger of a sniper's embrace.
