Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux knows she's the best - but she doesn't know if she's good enough for this job. Hired by the dangerously beautiful Archangel Raphael, a being so lethal that no mortal wants his attention, only one thing is clear - failure is not an option . . . even if the task she's been set is impossible.
Because this time, it's not a wayward vamp she has to track. It's an archangel gone bad.
The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other . . . and pull her to the razor's edge of passion. Even if the hunt doesn't destroy her, succumbing to Raphael's seductive touch just may. The first 4/6 of this story involved the buildup of sexual tension between the hero/heroine. Typical, boring, lustful, yadda, yadda. I was settling in to be bored brainless when the action picked up and an actual story developed. The story was very solid. I really hope the story of Elena and Raphael continues now that all the boring stuff is behind us. I hated that it took so long to get good, but I suppose it was worth the journey. I'll have to determine that from future installments. This was a great ebook, romance, urban fantasy. The world building was awesome, not a glitch to be found. The characters were interesting and enjoyable even though the hero was slightly scary. The start of a new series and I believe the first story about Elena, at least I hope so, the story was left with a cliffhanger ending wondering about some things left unsaid and undone. I hope to see much more of all the secondary characters as well. Definitely recommended, solid five stars. Some basics this is the story of Elena, who's a natural born vampire hunter living and working in New York City. Vampires are created by angels (who are not the usual heavenly host) and in payment for the angels' doing so, vampires are basically indentured for the first 100 years of their lives. When vampires renege on their service, it's up to Elena and the others in her guild to track them down. I didn't get totally sucked in until the second half of the book (after all the story set up was complete), at which point I could not put it down.
I don't want to tell you too much about the plot because I personally hate hearing a lot about a book before I read it, beyond someone I trust telling me it's worth my time.
If you enjoy paranormal romance, this book is definitely worth your time. WOW...WOW.
Just when you start to get cynical that there are really no new takes on the vampire angle and then Nalini comes up with this one. I love the whole Angel angle and the heroine is very true to her character throughout the book. Very wellwritten, fast paced and the psuedo Earth it takes place on is well thought out. I love her shifter series, but this book just had me put her at the top of my buy list right next to Christine Feehan's Ghostwalker series. A world with angels at the top of the food chain, vampires below them and humans last. Elena is a human who hunts vampires gone bad. She's believable as a tough girl. But she meets her match in the Archangel Raphael who is as bad as they come. I seriously could not put this one down. There is a short novella called "Angels Pawn" which features different characters in the same world, but it's not necessary to read it first.
