The Recommended Reading Order
The Above the Line series follows Chase Ryan and Keith Ellison as they pursue their dreams of producing faith-based films in Hollywood. To fully enjoy the plot and character development, the books should be read in their official publication and chronological order:
- Take One (January 2009)
- Take Two (June 2009)
- Take Three (March 2010)
- Take Four (June 2010)
How Above the Line Fits Into the Baxter Family Saga
While Above the Line can be read as a standalone four-book miniseries, it is actually the fourth main subseries in Karen Kingsbury’s overarching Baxter Family Saga. Reading the series out of order will spoil major character developments, especially the romance between Bailey Flanigan and Cody Coleman, which transitions directly into the subsequent books.
For the complete chronological experience, read the Baxter Family subseries in this sequence:
- Redemption Series (5 books)
- Firstborn Series (5 books)
- Sunrise Series (4 books)
- Above the Line Series (4 books)
- Bailey Flanigan Series (4 books)
- Coming Home (Standalone conclusion)
Chronological Caveats and Crossovers
Because the overarching Baxter Family saga features continuous storylines, key subplots—such as Keith Ellison’s daughter Andi’s quest for stardom and Bailey Flanigan's life decisions—are advanced directly inside the Above the Line novels. Reading Above the Line before finishing the Sunrise series will reveal major spoilers about the Baxter family's previous struggles and resolutions. Conversely, skipping it entirely will leave you confused when starting the Bailey Flanigan series, which opens immediately after the events of Take Four.
