Recommended Alex Craft Reading Order
For the best experience, we recommend reading the Alex Craft series in its original publication order. Because the overarching story, character development, and complex relationship dynamics between Alex, Falin Andrews, and Death unfold sequentially, jumping ahead will expose you to major spoilers. There is also one companion short story, "Ruby Red," which fits perfectly between the second and third novels.

Publication Order vs. Chronological Order
Fortunately, the chronological timeline matches the publication order of the novels exactly. You do not need to worry about jumping back and forth through time or tracking prequels. The only placement to note is "Ruby Red" (Book 2.5), which was published in 2013 but is chronologically set between Grave Dance and Grave Memory. Reading it in that slot provides a seamless flow, but you can also read the main novels straight through and circle back to it later.
The Alex Craft Books and Universe
The core series is complete at seven novels and one short story. While Kalayna Price has expressed interest in potentially revisiting the world or writing from other characters' perspectives in the future, Grave War serves as the definitive end to Alex's personal narrative arc. Unlike some urban fantasy worlds, there are no spin-offs, co-authored books, or sister series set in Nekros City. Price's other series, the Novels of Haven, is entirely standalone and features a different setting and cast.
Where to Start and Reading Caveats
You should absolutely start with Grave Witch. The magical rules of Nekros City, Alex's unique plane-weaving abilities, and the heavy toll of using her grave sight (which can temporarily blind her) are established early and build in complexity. Skipping ahead will leave you lost in the intricate supernatural politics of the fae courts and the ongoing battle with Death.
