How to Read the Arcadia Bell Series
If you want to experience Jenn Bennett's romantic, character-driven urban fantasy series, the path is straightforward. The series follows a linear chronological timeline, meaning the publication order matches the chronological order perfectly.
Recommended Reading Order
- Kindling the Moon (2011) – Book 1
- Summoning the Night (2012) – Book 2
- Leashing the Tempest (2012) – Novella (Book 2.5)
- Binding the Shadows (2013) – Book 3
- Banishing the Dark (2014) – Book 4
Where to Start
Always start with Kindling the Moon. It introduces Arcadia "Cady" Bell, a fugitive magician running a demon-friendly tiki lounge, and establishes the core Heka-based magic system. Because the series relies heavily on character development, romantic progression, and unfolding family secrets, jumping in mid-series is not recommended.
The Role of the Novella (Leashing the Tempest)
Set between Summoning the Night and Binding the Shadows, the novella Leashing the Tempest is a side adventure featuring a stormy boat trip. While it does not contain critical plot developments required to understand the remaining novels, it offers excellent character moments and fills the gap between the second and third books.
Other Paranormal Works by Jenn Bennett
Once you finish Cady's story in Banishing the Dark, you might want to check out the author's other supernatural fiction. Jenn Bennett wrote the Roaring Twenties series, beginning with Bitter Spirits. However, keep in mind that this is a separate historical paranormal romance series set in 1920s San Francisco, and it does not share the same universe or characters as Arcadia Bell.
