Where to Start: The Lifemate Journey Begins
For the best experience, readers should start with A Quick Bite. Although it was published in 2005, it functions as Book 1 in the chronological and recommended reading order. It introduces Lissianna Argeneau and establishes the unique rules of the Argeneau universe, specifically the concept of "lifemates"—the one person whose mind an immortal cannot read.
Publication Order vs. Chronological Order
The history of the series has a famous publishing quirk. Lynsay Sands originally wrote the stories in a specific chronological sequence. However, her publisher chose to release the brothers' stories out of order. As a result, Single White Vampire (Lucern's story) was published first in 2003, followed by Love Bites and Tall, Dark & Hungry in 2004, before the true introductory book, A Quick Bite, finally hit shelves in 2005. Reading in chronological/recommended order is highly advised because earlier chronological books establish character relationships and world-building referred to in the published-first titles.
The Rogue Hunter Subseries
The Rogue Hunter books are a prominent subseries that expands the universe. While sometimes packaged as a separate trilogy, they are fully integrated into the main series numbering. They focus on the enforcers who hunt down rogue immortals violating council laws:
- The Rogue Hunter (Book 10) - Focuses on Garrett Mortimer.
- The Immortal Hunter (Book 11) - Focuses on Decker Prime.
- The Renegade Hunter (Book 12) - Focuses on Nicholas Argeneau.
Novellas and Anthologies
Several crucial short stories are published within multi-author anthologies and slot directly into the reading order:
- "Vampire Valentine" (in the Bitten by Cupid anthology, Book 13) - Tiny McGraw's story.
- "The Gift" (in The Bite Before Christmas anthology, Book 17) - Explores Katricia Argeneau finding her lifemate Teddy Brunswick.
Recent and Future Releases
The series remains highly active. Following Bad Luck Vampire (Book 36) in 2023, Sands released Immortal by Morning (Book 37) in July 2025. The next installments are currently in development as the Argeneau family continues to expand.
