The Recommended Bastion Club Reading Order
For the best reading experience, it is highly recommended to follow the series in its official publication order. While the prequel, Captain Jack's Woman, is set chronologically earlier in 1811, starting with the first main novel, The Lady Chosen (set in 1816), is the most natural entry point to understand the club's formation and its core characters.

Chronological vs. Publication Order Details
Stephanie Laurens wrote Captain Jack's Woman in 1997, years before launching the official Bastion Club series in 2003. Chronologically, this prequel is set during the Regency era in 1811, while the subsequent eight novels all take place in the year 1816, immediately following the Battle of Waterloo and the demobilization of the Crown's elite secret service agents.
Connecting to the Broader Cynster Universe
The Bastion Club is part of Stephanie Laurens' massive, interconnected romance universe. The series takes place just before the main events of her famous Cynster series, which starts in 1818 with Devil's Bride. Furthermore, characters from the Bastion Club spin off into other series; for instance, Malcolm Sinclair (introduced in To Distraction) goes on to play a major role in the second book of The Casebook of Barnaby Adair series, titled Loving Rose.
