Recommended Reading Order
The Bern Saga (also known as the Molly Fyde series) follows a strict linear storyline. Because each book picks up where the previous one left off, the publication order is also the chronological order. For the best experience, you should read the books in this exact sequence:
- Molly Fyde and the Parsona Rescue (2009)
- Molly Fyde and the Land of Light (2010)
- Molly Fyde and the Blood of Billions (2010)
- Molly Fyde and the Fight for Peace (2010)
Where to Start and What to Expect
You must start with the first book, Molly Fyde and the Parsona Rescue. The series introduces us to Molly Fyde, a 16-year-old orphan expelled from the Flight Academy who discovers her missing father's starship, the Parsona. Unlike Hugh Howey's dark, post-apocalyptic Silo series, the Bern Saga is a fast-paced, classic space opera with a strong young adult tone. Readers can expect galactic wars, alien civilizations, interstellar politics, and a character-driven story focused on resilience and identity.
The Status of the Fifth Book
Many online book databases list a fifth installment titled Molly Fyde and the Darkness Deep, sometimes dating it to 2014. However, this book was never officially finished or published. Hugh Howey has noted that the project was sidelined when his self-published hit Wool took off, requiring him to shift his focus. As a result, the series is currently considered complete with the first four books.
Spin-Offs, Tie-Ins, and Co-Authored Projects
Unlike some expansive sci-fi universes, the Bern Saga has no spin-off novels, tie-in short stories, or co-authored books. The entire saga was written solely by Hugh Howey, and the core story is fully contained within the four published novels.
