Recommended Reading Order
The Bobiverse saga follows a continuous, linear future history. Because the narrative arcs and character developments build directly upon one another, the recommended reading order is identical to the publication order. You should start with the book that introduced the universe and follow the sequence straight through:
- We Are Legion (We Are Bob) (2016) – The book that starts it all. Bob Johansson dies and wakes up a century later as a replicant AI tasked with exploring the universe.
- For We Are Many (2017) – The Bobiverse expands as Bob's clones colonize new systems, encounter alien life, and face the lethal threat of the Medeiros probes.
- All These Worlds (2017) – The original trilogy reaches its climax as the Bobs wage an all-out war against the world-harvesting Others to save humanity.
- Heaven's River (2020) – Set decades after the war, this entry focuses on search-and-rescue operations in a massive Megastructure and delves into a brewing Bob-on-Bob civil conflict.
- Not Till We Are Lost (2024/2025) – Bob deals with new physics breakthroughs, internal political splits, and the mysteries left behind by the elusive Others.
Publication Order vs. Chronological Order
While the Bobiverse features multiple Bobs operating simultaneously across light-years of space, their individual timelines are woven together chronologically within each volume. Trying to parse individual clone timelines across books is practically impossible and would ruin the story. Readers should strictly stick to the publication order to maintain the intended narrative flow.
Understanding the Audiobook Exclusivity Window
If you prefer reading physical books or eBooks, you might notice a gap between when Bobiverse news breaks and when you can get your hands on a print copy. Dennis E. Taylor publishes the Bobiverse books as Audible Originals first, narrated by Ray Porter. For example, Not Till We Are Lost debuted as an audiobook in September 2024, but the Kindle and print editions did not release until early 2025. Be prepared for a similar wait for future installments.
Spin-Offs, Tie-Ins, and Future Books
At present, there are no official spin-offs, short story collections, or co-authored books in the Bobiverse canon. Dennis E. Taylor remains the sole author of the series. However, the universe is actively expanding:
- Book 6: Titled The Infinite Extent, the next book has completed narration and is awaiting its release schedule.
- Book 7: Taylor has stated that the seventh book will likely wrap up the main linear storyline of the series.
- Future Universe Stories: While the main arc may conclude with Book 7, Taylor plans to write standalone stories set within the Bobiverse in the future.
