Where to Start Reading Brady Coyne
The best place to start the series is with the very first book, Death at Charity's Point (1984). This debut won the Scribner Crime Novel Award and introduces Brady Coyne—a relaxed, fly-fishing Boston lawyer who manages the legal affairs and private lives of New England's wealthy elite. While the mysteries in each book are self-contained, reading the series from the beginning allows you to follow Brady's long-term personal relationships, his family life, and his growth as a character.
Publication Order vs. Chronological Order
For the Brady Coyne series, publication order and chronological order are identical. Brady ages in real-time across the series, evolving from a mid-30s divorcee into a seasoned attorney. The three crossover novels co-authored with Philip R. Craig should be read in sequence with the main novels based on their release years to preserve the timeline of Brady's life.
