How to Read the Callahan-Warren Series
If you want to dive into Johanna Lindsey's rugged, romantic 1880s Montana, you should read the trilogy in its original publication order. The stories follow a clean chronological path, starting with the resolution of a family feud and branching into individual adventures for the characters introduced along the way.
Recommended Reading Order
- One Heart to Win (2013): Start here. This book sets up the entire Callahan-Warren dynamic, following Tiffany Warren and Hunter Callahan as they try to end a decades-long family rivalry through an arranged marriage.
- Wildfire in His Arms (2015): Read this second. It follows the gunslinger Degan Grant, who was first introduced in One Heart to Win, as he leaves Montana for California.
- Marry Me by Sundown (2018): The final book. It focuses on Morgan Callahan, Hunter's brother, who leaves the family cattle ranch to strike gold (and find love with Violet Mitchell) in the silver mines.
Chronological Order vs. Publication Order
Since the second and third books focus on characters introduced in the first book, the chronological timeline matches the publication order exactly. Reading them out of order is possible because each romance stands on its own, but starting with the first book is highly recommended to appreciate the character growth and family backgrounds.
Spin-Offs, Connections, and the Wyoming Westerns
While the Callahan-Warren series is a self-contained trilogy with no external spin-offs or co-authored additions, fans of Lindsey's frontier romances should check out her Wyoming Westerns series (Brave the Wild Wind, Savage Thunder, and Angel). They share the same spirited, adventurous tone but feature entirely different characters and settings.
