How to Read the Chronicles of the Stone Veil

Sawyer Bennett's Chronicles of the Stone Veil is an immersive paranormal romance series set in Seattle and magical realms beyond the veil. To get the best experience, you should read these books in a specific order. The series is divided into a core five-book story arc and several standalone novels that build on the same universe.

The Recommended Reading Order

We recommend reading the books in their publication order. While the prequel novella is chronologically first, starting with the main novel provides a much smoother introduction to the world's magic system and characters. Here is the recommended path:

  1. The Revelation of Light and Dark (Book 1) – Start here to meet Finley Porter, a Seattle barista who begins seeing supernatural beings, and Carrick Byrne, her mysterious guide.
  2. A Discovery of Secrets and Fate (Book 2) – Finley starts training and unravelling the cosmic prophecy that hangs over her.
  3. The Evolution of Fae and Gods (Book 3) – The stakes rise as alliances shift between the fae and ancient gods.
  4. A Battle of Blood and Stone (Book 4) – Finley and Carrick prepare for the ultimate clash of realms.
  5. The Rise of Fortune and Fury (Book 5) – The epic conclusion to Finley and Carrick's core storyline.
  6. The Shadow Princess (Book 6) – The first standalone spinoff novel, following Thalia Clairmont, the memory-stripped heir to the throne of Vyronas.
  7. The Midnight Realm (Book 7) – A standalone romance featuring Amell, the newly crowned King of the Underworld, and mortal soul Nyssa McKnight.
  8. The Ruin of Gods (Book 8) – A standalone friends-to-lovers story focused on Zora, the mortal turned goddess of Life and Death.
  9. The Riven Thief (Book 9) – The final standalone novel, following Kieran Dunne as he investigates the theft of a powerful spellbook.

Where Does the Prequel Novella Fit?

The Clash of Yesterday (Book 0.5) is a prequel novella that provides early history for the universe. You have two options for reading it:

  • Option A (Recommended): Read it after Book 5 or Book 6. Once you are already invested in the lore, this prequel adds rich backstory without spoiling the mystery of Finley's initial discoveries.
  • Option B (Chronological): Read it first. If you love having the complete historical context before starting a series, you can begin here.

Key Series Caveats and Spin-offs

While the first five books are a continuous story following Finley and Carrick, Books 6 through 9 are marketed as standalone romances. However, because they build directly on the rules, factions, and world-altering events established in the first five books, reading them out of order is highly discouraged. Sawyer Bennett wrote all the books in the Stone Veil universe solo, so there are no co-authored books to track down. Be careful not to confuse this series with her contemporary sports romance novels, as this is her signature foray into paranormal fantasy.

Frequently Asked

QCan the standalone books (Books 6–9) be read out of order?

While they follow different couples and feature self-contained love stories, they are set in the same chronological timeline and build on the lore of the previous books. For the best experience, we recommend reading them in order starting with The Shadow Princess.

QShould I read The Clash of Yesterday first?

You can, but we advise starting with The Revelation of Light and Dark. Beginning with the first full novel allows you to discover the supernatural world alongside Finley, keeping the mystery alive.

QIs the Chronicles of the Stone Veil series completed?

Yes, the series concluded with the publication of the ninth book, The Riven Thief, in July 2023.

QWho are the main characters of the core series?

The core five-book arc focuses on Finley Porter, a barista with the rare sight to see beyond the veil, and her guide and romantic interest, Carrick Byrne.

QAre there any co-authored books or spin-offs in this universe?

No. Sawyer Bennett wrote all 10 books (including the novella) independently. There are no external spin-offs or co-authored projects associated with this series.
