Major Family Sub-Arcs & Subseries
If you prefer to focus on specific family lines or character circles rather than reading the entire series in order, the novels naturally group into several sub-arcs:
The Dalton Brothers (Books 1–3)
The series kicks off with the Dalton family. Over the first three books, we follow the romantic and personal journeys of the three Dalton brothers: Wade (rancher), Jake (doctor), and Seth (local hunk). This trilogy lays down the foundation of the community's layout and setting in Pine Gulch.
The Bowman Family (Books 9–12)
The Bowmans are another prominent family in Cold Creek, with several members finding love across a sequence of holiday-themed novels. These books follow Trace (the town police chief), Taft, Caidy, and Ridge Bowman.
The Nichols Sisters (Books 5, 14, 15, and 16)
The Nichols sisters—Hope, Celeste, and Faith—inherited their family’s ranching roots in Pine Gulch. Their respective books focus on rebuilding their lives, finding love, and saving family properties like the Christmas Ranch:
- The Christmas Ranch (Hope Nichols & Rafe Santiago)
- A Cold Creek Christmas Story (Celeste Nichols & Flynn Delaney)
- The Holiday Gift (Faith Nichols & Chase Brannon)
Reading Caveats & Town Settings
A common point of confusion for new readers is the geographical names. While the series is named Cowboys of Cold Creek, the primary setting for almost all the books is the fictional town of Pine Gulch, Idaho, which lies near the Grand Teton mountains. Cold Creek refers to the wider rural county area and specific local ranches. Additionally, several novels are packaged in omnibus collections under alternative titles (such as Dalton's Undoing also circulating as Snowfall in Cold Creek), so be careful not to accidentally buy the same story twice under different names.
