How to Read the Edge Series in Order
Megan Crane’s Edge series is a tightly written four-book dystopian romance saga, complemented by a collection of three standalone novellas. To fully appreciate the political power struggles, the evolving world-building of a drowned Earth, and the ultimate rebellion against a tyrannical religious regime, it is highly recommended to read the main novels in order of publication.

Breaking Down the Edge Universe
The Edge series takes place on a flooded, post-apocalyptic Earth where dry land is a luxury, electricity is a valuable currency, and survival is a daily battle. Society has fractured into scattered strongholds, floating communities, and a predatory class of seafaring warriors known as Raiders. These Raiders operate like a cross between historic Vikings and outlaw biker clubs, governed by a strict code of brotherhood, loyalty, and strength.
Edge of Obsession (Book 1)
The series kicks off with Edge of Obsession, which introduces readers to the harsh realities of the flooded world. Helena, a defiant woman harboring deep secrets, is captured by Tyr, a battle-hardened Raider war chief. The story established the foundational world-building of the series, showing the contrast between the civilized, desperate remnants of humanity and the brutal, sea-ruling Raider clans. Their explosive clash of wills sets the tone for the romance and the overarching conflict against the region's corrupt powers.
Edge of Temptation (Book 2)
In the second book, the story turns its focus to the oppressive and abusive organization known simply as the Church. Maud is a novice trying to escape the clutches of this corrupt religious institution. She crosses paths with Gunnar, a Raider warrior on a quest to secure a sacred ritual. Edge of Temptation expands on the spiritual and psychological control the Church exerts over survivors, building the tension for a larger rebellion.
Edge of Control (Book 3)
Edge of Control shifts the spotlight to Eiryn, the only female Raider to earn her place among the male-dominated warriors, and Riordan, an undercover operative with a complicated history. Their mission involves infiltrating the Church’s headquarters, raising the stakes from individual survival to a full-scale battle for the future of their society.
Edge of Power (Book 4)
The main narrative concludes with Edge of Power, centering on Wulf, the Raider King, and Kathlyn. As the ultimate confrontation with the Church reaches its boiling point, Wulf’s forbidden relationship with Kathlyn threatens to fracture the fragile alliance of the Raider clans. It serves as a high-stakes, action-packed resolution to the main series arc.
The Novella Collection: Edge of Ruin
Released in late 2017, Edge of Ruin is a digital boxed set containing three original, standalone novellas set within the same universe. While these stories are not required to understand the main quadrilogy, they flesh out the world and introduce new characters facing their own survival and romantic challenges:
- Danger's Edge: Follows Tait, a fearsome Raider, and Elenthea, a woman from a floating city called the Raft, as they strike a bargain for survival.
- Need's Edge: Features Matylda, who becomes a mail-order bride for a dark and demanding warrior named Zavier.
- Raider's Edge: Focuses on the relationship between the warrior Jurin and Melyssa, whose child he has sworn to protect.
What to Know Before You Start
Before diving into Megan Crane's dystopian world, readers should be prepared for a specific style and tone. Written under a pen name by Harlequin romance author Caitlin Crews, this series leans heavily into dark themes, high heat, and intense power dynamics. The Raiders are ruthless alpha heroes, and the world they inhabit is unforgiving. If you enjoy gritty romantic suspense with high emotional stakes and world-building reminiscent of Mad Max meets Vikings, this series is custom-built for you.
Because each book follows a different couple, the romantic arcs are self-contained. However, the political landscape, the power balance among the Raiders, and the war against the corrupt Church build directly from one book to the next. Skipping books is not recommended if you want to follow the overarching plot progression.
