The Recommended Reading Order (Chronological)
For the best reading experience, it is highly recommended to read the Shatter Me series in chronological order. Because Tahereh Mafi writes her novellas from the perspectives of different key characters—like Warner, Adam, and Kenji—skipping them means missing out on vital character development, major revelations, and emotional shifts that bridge the gap between the main novels. The recommended sequence is as follows:
- Shatter Me (Book 1, 2011) – The novel that starts it all. We meet Juliette Ferrars, locked away in an asylum due to her lethal, power-draining touch.
- Destroy Me (Novella 1.5, 2012) – Set between the events of Shatter Me and Unravel Me. Written from Warner's perspective, this novella completely reframes his character and actions.
- Unravel Me (Book 2, 2013) – Juliette finds temporary safety with a group of rebels at Omega Point, learning to understand her abilities while caught in an intense emotional struggle.
- Fracture Me (Novella 2.5, 2013) – Set between Unravel Me and Ignite Me. Written from Adam's perspective, focusing on the chaos of the battle at Omega Point and his mindset.
- Ignite Me (Book 3, 2014) – Juliette embraces her strength and decides to fight back against the Reestablishment, marking the dramatic conclusion of the original trilogy.
- Restore Me (Book 4, 2018) – The beginning of the second story arc. Juliette takes on a leadership role, but secrets from the past threaten her new position and relationships.
- Shadow Me (Novella 4.5, 2019) – Set after Restore Me. Written from Kenji Kishimoto's point of view as he deals with grief, pressure, and his feelings.
- Defy Me (Book 5, 2019) – Revelations about Juliette's past and origin come to light, altering everything she thought she knew about her family and herself.
- Reveal Me (Novella 5.5, 2019) – Set between Defy Me and Imagine Me. Also told from Kenji's perspective, delivering a massive cliffhanger that leads directly into the final novel.
- Imagine Me (Book 6, 2020) – The explosive final main novel of the series, where Juliette and her allies fight for the ultimate survival of their world.
- Believe Me (Novella 6.5, 2021) – The final novella told from Warner's perspective, serving as an epilogue to the main series as the characters attempt to build a future together.

The Companion Bind-Up Collections
Rather than purchasing the digital novellas individually, you can find them collected in two physical volumes published by HarperCollins:
- Unite Me (February 4, 2014) – Combines the novellas Destroy Me and Fracture Me.
- Find Me (October 8, 2019) – Combines the novellas Shadow Me and Reveal Me.
- Note: Believe Me was published as a standalone print edition in November 2021, and is also included in full series box sets rather than a third duo compilation.
The Spinoff: Shatter Me: The New Republic
For readers who aren't ready to leave Mafi's world behind, a sequel spinoff series titled Shatter Me: The New Republic continues the story. Set ten years after the events of the original series, this trilogy shifts focus to younger characters, specifically James and Rosabelle, while still featuring appearances from Warner, Kenji, and other fan favorites. The spinoff titles are:
- Watch Me (Book 1) – Released on April 15, 2025.
- Release Me (Book 2) – Released on April 7, 2026.
- Escape Me (Book 3) – Expected release in September 2026.
What to Know Before You Start
Before diving into Shatter Me, there are a few unique aspects of the series to keep in mind. First, Tahereh Mafi uses a highly stylized, stream-of-consciousness writing technique in the early books to represent Juliette's fractured mental state. This includes crossed-out sentences and repetitive, poetic descriptions that reflect her isolation and trauma. As Juliette heals and grows stronger, the crossed-out text fades away, representing her growing self-assurance.
Second, this series is widely celebrated on BookTok, where it has gained a massive revival. Much of this popularity is driven by the romance and character arcs, particularly the shift in dynamics between Juliette, Adam, and Warner. It is a slow-burn romantic journey set against a backdrop of superpowers reminiscent of X-Men and political control resembling The Hunger Games.
