How to Read the VLG Series in Order
The VLG series (which stands for Vampires, Lycans, Gargoyles... and the hybrid shifters in between) is best read in publication order. Because the overarching plot elements, pack politics, and character introductions build directly on previous events, jumping around can lead to major spoilers. Follow the order below to experience the series as Laurann Dohner intended.

- Drantos (2015) - Introduces Dusti Dawson and the VampLycan Drantos.
- Kraven (2016) - Follows Dusti's sister, Batina, and Drantos's brother, Kraven.
- Lorn (2016) - Features Kira, a human-VampLycan hybrid, and Lorn, a clan leader.
- Veso (2017) - Explores Veso's search for his missing female and his battle to protect his pack.
- Lavos (2017) - Introduces Jadee and the mysterious non-human protector Lavos.

Understanding the Species and Universe
In Laurann Dohner's VLG universe, supernatural creatures are not separated by clean boundaries. Instead, the Alaskan wilderness is populated by hybrids that combine the traits of different species:
- VampLycans: Hybrids of vampires and lycans (werewolves). They possess the strength and feral nature of shifters combined with the bloodlust and speed of vampires.
- GarLycans: Hybrids of gargoyles and lycans. These creatures have stone-like resilience, flight capabilities, and lupine shifting instincts.
The rugged, isolated setting of Alaska serves as the perfect sanctuary and battleground for these clans. The harsh wilderness amplifies the isolation and survival instincts of the characters, creating a high-octane background for the fast-paced, steamy romances.
The Rogues United Spin-off Connection
With the release of Trent in 2023, Laurann Dohner introduced the Rogues United sub-series or spin-off. While Trent is officially numbered as Book 13 in the VLG series, it focuses on shifters who have fled or been abandoned by their birth packs, forming a new pack of outcasts. The story shifts focus slightly to the enemies-to-lovers dynamic between a rogue shifter and a newly turned vampire. Although it can be read as a standalone entry point, reading the prior 12 VLG books provides invaluable context on how these species interact.
Where to Start and Reading Tips
For the best reading experience, start with Drantos. The first book sets up the entire VLG universe, explaining how humans fit into the secret world of hybrid supernatural beings, and introduces the Dawson family, whose members recur throughout subsequent books. While each book features a standalone romance between a specific couple, the overarching threat of rogue factions, pack politics, and the origin of the VampLycans and GarLycans unfolds progressively across the books.
