The Recommended Reading Order
For the best experience, we recommend reading the Aspect and Anchor series in publication order. This sequence allows you to experience the natural evolution of the world-building, the rules of Aos, and the nature of the divine pantheon as Ruby Dixon introduced them.
- The King's Spinster Bride (2018) — Book 0.5 (Novella). A standalone prequel romance about Princess Halla and a barbarian king. It is set in the same world of Aos but does not feature the main series' signature Aspect-Anchor magic.
- Bound to the Battle God (2019) — Book 1. The first full-length novel. This is the absolute best starting point for new readers, establishing the rules of the universe and the dynamic between transported human women and exiled gods.
- Sworn to the Shadow God (2020) — Book 2. A fan-favorite novel following gamer girl Max and Rhagos, the God of Death.
- Wed to the Wild God (2021) — Book 3. An adventure-filled romance featuring Carly and Kassam, the God of Beasts.
- The Half-Orc's Maiden Bride (2022) — Book 3.5 (Novella). A sweet, cozy standalone novella set in Aos featuring a half-orc groom and his bride.
- Servant to the Spidae (2023) — Book 4. A full-length polyamorous novel where a human anchor is bound to three Aspects of Fate.
- The Sea-Ogre's Eager Bride (2025) — Book 5. A standalone monster romance novel set within the universe.
- Vowed to the Vulture God (2026) — Book 6. A standalone novel following a new pairing under the divine rules of Aos.
Where to Start Reading
While The King's Spinster Bride is chronologically first, we strongly advise starting with Bound to the Battle God. Because it is the first full-length novel in the series, it takes the time to thoroughly explain Aos's magical mechanics, the rules of the god-mortal anchor bonds, and the overall political landscape. Starting with the novellas may leave you lacking context for how the world operates.
Understanding the Novellas and Standalones
Ruby Dixon's Aspect and Anchor books are generally standalone love stories focusing on a specific couple. However, the background lore and the overarching state of the gods progress chronologically. The shorter 'Bride' books—such as The King's Spinster Bride, The Half-Orc's Maiden Bride, and The Sea-Ogre's Eager Bride—serve as lighter companion stories. They are set in the same universe but feature different fantasy species (like orcs and ogres) and do not focus on the central exiled-god bonding mechanics found in the numbered novels.
