Recommended Reading Order
The best and most straightforward way to read the Atlantis series is in order of publication. Because the story follows a continuous, chronological narrative tracing ex-Green Beret Eric Dane's battle against a transdimensional enemy known as the "Shadow," skipping around will leave you lost in time-slips and high-tech military jargon.
- Atlantis (1999) - Introduces Eric Dane, the Bermuda Triangle anomaly, and the threat of the Shadow.
- Bermuda Triangle (2000) - Follows the team as they try to stop a nuclear launch coming from deep within the Bermuda Triangle.
- Devil's Sea (2001) - Takes the fight to Japan's legendary Devil's Sea, mixing naval warfare with ancient myths.
- Atlantis Gate (2002) - The conflict escalates as mysterious interdimensional gates begin opening across the globe.
- Assault on Atlantis (2003) - The human forces launch an offensive against the home base of the Shadow.
- Battle for Atlantis (2004) - The final showdown to determine the fate of Earth and humanity.
The Area 51 Universe Connection
While the Atlantis series functions perfectly well as a self-contained six-book run, Bob Mayer later integrated it into his larger sci-fi universe. If you are a fan of his Area 51 series (written under the pseudonym Robert Doherty), you will want to check out the Area 51: Time Patrol spin-off. This spin-off features direct crossovers, bringing Eric Dane and key concepts like the "Cellar" into play to face the very same "Shadow" entity from the Atlantis books.
A Note on Re-releases
If you encounter a listing for Atlantis Gate dated 2011, don't worry—you haven't missed a book. This was simply a digital and audiobook re-issue by the author's imprint, Cool Gus Publishing, of the original 2002 novel.
