The Recommended Atlee Pine Reading Order
Unlike many thriller series that feature self-contained detective cases, the Atlee Pine series follows a highly serialized story arc. The central mystery of the series—the abduction of Atlee's twin sister, Mercy—develops continuously across all four books. Because of this, it is highly recommended that you read the books in order of publication.
- Long Road to Mercy (2018) – Introduces FBI Special Agent Atlee Pine, who is stationed at the Grand Canyon. While investigating a mutilated mule and a missing tourist, she must confront the painful memories of her twin sister's kidnapping thirty years prior.
- A Minute to Midnight (2019) – Atlee takes a leave of absence and returns to her childhood home in Georgia to finally investigate her sister's abduction, only to cross paths with a local serial killer.
- Daylight (2020) – The search for Mercy leads Atlee to a global conspiracy in Washington, D.C., where her path crosses with Army CID Investigator John Puller.
- Mercy (2021) – The final book in the series. Atlee and military investigator John Puller team up once again to track down the truth behind Mercy's disappearance, bringing the emotional storyline to a dramatic resolution.
Crossovers and Connections
David Baldacci fans will appreciate the crossover elements built into the Atlee Pine books. The most significant connection is with the John Puller series. John Puller enters the narrative in Daylight, making it a dual crossover. Puller and his brother, Robert, also play major roles in the final book, Mercy. While you do not need to have read the John Puller series to enjoy Atlee's story, reading the Puller books beforehand provides additional context on his character.
The Future of Atlee Pine
The Atlee Pine series is currently a completed tetralogy, with the main story arc resolving in the fourth book. However, fans can look forward to seeing Atlee on screen. An adaptation of the series is currently in active development at Amazon Studios, with a pilot script already written, though casting and release details have not yet been announced.
