How to Read the Brotherhood of the Raven Series
The Brotherhood of the Raven series (often referred to as the Plain Sight series) by Marta Perry is a gripping blend of Amish cultural detail and romantic suspense. The narrative centers around the Spring Township Amish community in Pennsylvania, where secrets from the past intersect with modern threats.
We recommend reading the series in chronological order to follow the development of the recurring characters, particularly the Morgan family siblings, and the general timeline of the community.
Recommended Chronological Reading Order
- Murder in Plain Sight (2010) – Introduces attorney Jessica Langdon and local businessman Trey Morgan as they investigate a murder accusation against an Amish teenager.
- Lost in Plain Sight (2011) – A companion novella (often designated as Book 1.5) focusing on Leah Miller, an Amish woman accused of theft.
- Vanish in Plain Sight (2011) – Follows Marisa Angelo and Link Morgan as they uncover family secrets linked to a decades-old disappearance.
- Danger in Plain Sight (2011) – Features news photographer Libby Morgan returning to Lancaster County to face threats alongside police chief Adam Byler.
- Fallen in Plain Sight (2016) – A novella focusing on Sarah Weaver and Jacob Mast, originally published in the 2012 Dark Crossings anthology.
Publication Order vs. Chronological Order
For the most part, the publication order matches the chronological flow, with one minor exception. The novella Lost in Plain Sight was published in May 2011, shortly after the release of the second full novel, Vanish in Plain Sight (March 2011). However, because it is chronologically situated between the events of the first and second novels, purists may prefer to read it as Book 1.5.
Additionally, the final novella, Fallen in Plain Sight, was first released in the multi-author anthology Dark Crossings in October 2012, before receiving a standalone digital release in April 2016.
The Morgan Family Connections
While each book operates as a standalone mystery, the three primary novels are bound together by the Morgan family. Trey, Link, and Libby Morgan are siblings who each take center stage in the main entries (Books 1, 2, and 3 respectively). Navigating their relationships with the local Amish community and uncovering their family history provides a strong unifying thread across the trilogy.
