Recommended Reading Path
The Casey Jordan series follows a clear, linear timeline. Because Casey's career, relationships, and personal ethics undergo dramatic shifts across the books, you should read them in publication order. Reading them out of order will spoil major character developments, including the dismantling of her personal life and her career transition from a corporate-style defense lawyer to a public advocate.

Understanding Casey's Evolution
If you want to understand the progression of the series, here is how each installment shapes Casey's journey:
- The Letter of the Law: Casey is an ambitious young attorney who defends her former law professor, Eric Lipton, in a murder trial. The shocking aftermath of this trial forces her to choose between the strict letter of the law and true moral justice, prompting her to leave her firm and her husband.
- Above the Law: Nine years later, Casey has relocated to Austin, Texas, to run a legal aid clinic. She finds herself in the crosshairs of a corrupt U.S. Senator after taking on a suspicious wrongful death case.
- False Convictions: In the final book, Casey works with the Freedom Project (a fictional counterpart to the real-life Innocence Project) to free Dwayne Hubbard, an indigent man wrongfully imprisoned for decades.
