The Recommended Reading Order
Eileen E.F. Watkins’ Cat Groomer Mystery series is best read in order of publication. Because Cassie’s business, friendships, and romance develop over time, following her journey chronologically gives you the best reading experience. Start with her first case and follow her through all six books:
- The Persian Always Meows Twice (2017) – Cassie McGlone’s amateur sleuthing career begins when she discovers a wealthy client murdered during a home grooming session, leaving a pampered Persian cat as the only witness.
- The Bengal Identity (2018) – A mysterious client abandons a beautiful cat at Cassie's salon. When the cat turns out to be a stolen high-pedigree Bengal and a handler is found dead, Cassie is drawn into the investigation.
- Feral Attraction (2018) – Cassie finds herself caught in the crossfire of a local dispute between bird watchers and feral cat colony caretakers. When a prominent cat advocate dies under suspicious circumstances, Cassie digs for the truth.
- Gone, Kitty, Gone (2019) – While attending a major cat show expo, a valuable champion cat goes missing and a judge is murdered. Cassie must navigate a community of eccentric exhibitors to catch the killer.
- Claw & Disorder (2021) – Cassie is caught between two challenging clients—a hoarder with dozens of cats and a demanding wealthy perfectionist—when a local resident is killed.
- Night of the Were-Cat (2022) – In the final book of the series, a veterinary clinic break-in, a rash of drug thefts, and a Halloween werewolf pageant lead Cassie to a deadly confrontation.
Why You Should Read the Series in Order
While each book features a standalone mystery that is resolved by the final page, the overarching character growth makes chronological reading highly rewarding. When the series begins, Cassie is rebuilding her life and career after escaping a toxic relationship. Over the course of the six novels, readers watch her establish her salon, Cassie’s Comfy Cats, hire her loyal assistant Dawn, and navigate a slow-burning romance with Mark, the local veterinarian.
