The Recommended Reading Order
The Jersey Boys series by three-time RITA Award winner Karen Templeton consists of four interconnected contemporary romance novels published under the Harlequin Special Edition imprint. The series centers on the Noble family in the close-knit fictional town of Maple River, New Jersey. The Books in Detail
1. The Real Mr. Right (2014)
The series kicks off with the story of Kelly McNeil and Matt Noble. Kelly is a single mother seeking refuge and a fresh start away from her ex-husband. She relocates to a home belonging to her ex-husband's friend, only to find Matt Noble—her major teenage crush—answering the door. As they reconnect, the novel explores a slow-burn romance centering on trust, second chances, and moving past the trauma of the past.
2. More Than She Expected (2014)
The second installment follows Laurel Kent, a pregnant young adult fiction writer who is determined to renovate her new home and raise her baby alone. Her plans are disrupted by her neighbor, Tyler Noble. Serving as an impromptu "Mr. Fix-It," Tyler slowly tears down Laurel's emotional and physical defenses. Tyler's own story is deeply rooted in emotional baggage regarding his childhood, identity, and adoption, which adds layers of vulnerability to their growing connection.
3. Santa's Playbook (2014)
The third book brings a holiday theme and was highly acclaimed, winning the Romantic Times Reviewer’s Choice Award for Best Special Edition of 2014. The plot features Ethan Noble, a widowed high school football coach struggling to raise his four unruly children. Claire Jacobs, a warm drama teacher, steps into their lives. Orchestrated in part by Ethan's daughter, who is convinced Claire is the perfect match, the book deals beautifully with grief, healing, and finding joy after loss.
4. Meant-to-Be Mom (2015)
The final novel in the series shifts focus to Sabrina Noble, the sister of the Noble brothers. Sabrina, a personal shopper, returns to her hometown of Maple River. There, she crosses paths with Cole Rayburn, a computer expert and single father of two tweens. Wary of relationships after a painful divorce, Cole is hesitant to open his heart again, forcing Sabrina to navigate whether she can truly step into the role of a "bonus mom" and build the family she has always wanted.
What to Know Before You Start
If you are new to Karen Templeton's writing, expect a focus on realistic, everyday people rather than highly stylized romance tropes. The Jersey Boys series is known for its emotional authenticity, heavy focus on family dynamics (including single parenthood, adoption, and blended families), and sharp, witty dialogue. Because the books were released as part of the Harlequin Special Edition line, they are quick, emotionally satisfying reads with a strong emphasis on community support and second chances.
