Where to Start Reading Alyson Noël
Alyson Noël has built a career on high-stakes young adult fiction, transitioning from urban fantasy and paranormal romance to dark contemporary mysteries and time-travel thrillers. For most readers, the best starting point depends on what genre you prefer, but the flagship entry point remains her massive bestseller: The Immortals series.
If you love magical academies, time travel, and high-stakes secrets, a great alternative starting point is her recent trilogy, Stealing Infinity. If you prefer contemporary suspense, lies, and Hollywood drama, begin with the Beautiful Idols trilogy.
The Immortals and Riley Bloom: The Perfect Reading Order
The Immortals is a six-book paranormal romance series centering on Ever Bloom, a teenager who survives a tragic car crash that kills her family. The crash leaves her with psychic abilities, including the power to see people's auras, hear their thoughts, and know their life stories with a single touch. She seeks to avoid human contact until she meets Damen Auguste, an gorgeous immortal who helps her navigate her new reality.
Ever's younger sister, twelve-year-old Riley Bloom, also died in the crash but lingers as a ghost to watch over Ever. Once Riley finally crosses over to the afterlife (a realm called "Here & Now"), she gets her own spin-off series, working as a "Soul Catcher" helping lost spirits move on. Because Riley's departure happens during the events of the main series, there is a distinct chronological crossover.
Recommended Chronological Path
To avoid spoilers and maintain the emotional timeline, read the first three books of The Immortals, switch to the Riley Bloom spin-off, and then finish Ever's story:
- Evermore (The Immortals, Book 1) (2009)
- Blue Moon (The Immortals, Book 2) (2009)
- Shadowland (The Immortals, Book 3) (2009) — At the end of this book, Riley crosses over.
- Radiance (Riley Bloom, Book 1) (2010)
- Shimmer (Riley Bloom, Book 2) (2011)
- Dreamland (Riley Bloom, Book 3) (2011)
- Whisper (Riley Bloom, Book 4) (2012)
- Dark Flame (The Immortals, Book 4) (2010)
- Night Star (The Immortals, Book 5) (2010)
- Everlasting (The Immortals, Book 6) (2011)
Alternatively, you can read the entire six-book run of The Immortals first, followed by the four books of Riley Bloom. This is the publication order and works perfectly well since the spin-off is written to be entirely standalone.
The Soul Seekers Series
Moving away from Ever and Damen, The Soul Seekers shifts focus to Daire Santos, a sixteen-year-old girl who experiences terrifying visions of glowing people and shapeshifting beasts. When she is sent to live with her grandmother in a dusty New Mexico town, she learns she comes from a long line of Soul Seekers—individuals who can travel between the worlds of the living and the dead to maintain cosmic balance.
To promote this series, Noël released a brief crossover e-novella titled Daire Meets Ever, where the protagonists of both series cross paths. It is best read right before starting Fated.
The recommended reading order is:
- Daire Meets Ever (Novella 0.5) (2012)
- Fated (Book 1) (2012)
- Echo (Book 2) (2012)
- Mystic (Book 3) (2013)
- Horizon (Book 4) (2013)
Beautiful Idols Series
For readers who want a break from the supernatural, the Beautiful Idols trilogy is a contemporary mystery thriller set in the glamorous, competitive nightlife scene of Los Angeles. The plot centers on three teens—Layla, Aster, and Tommy—competing in a high-stakes club promotion contest. Their lives take a dark turn when LA's biggest "It Girl," Madison Brooks, disappears, and the three rivals find themselves in the middle of a massive media frenzy and murder investigation.
This series should be read strictly in order:
- Unrivaled (Book 1) (2016)
- Blacklist (Book 2) (2017)
- Infamous (Book 3) (2018)
Stealing Infinity (Stolen Beauty) Series
Noël's time-travel fantasy series, often referred to as the Stolen Beauty series, centers on Natasha "Nat" Clarke. Nat is recruited into Gray Wolf Academy, a mysterious, off-the-grid school for kids who possess the rare ability to "Trip," or travel through time. Under the direction of billionaire Arthur Blackstone, they are trained to travel to the past and retrieve historical artifacts, but Nat quickly discovers that the academy is hiding dark secrets.
Read the trilogy in this order:
- Stealing Infinity (Book 1) (2022)
- Ruling Destiny (Book 2) (2023)
- Chasing Eternity (Book 3) (2024)
