Where to Start Reading Camille Elliot
If you are new to Camille Elliot's gripping Christian Regency romantic suspense novels, you have two primary entry points depending on whether you want to dive into a massive serialized saga or sample her work with a standalone mystery.
- For Standalone Readers: Start with Prelude for a Lord (2014). This book is a completely self-contained novel that combines romance, classical music, and mystery without committing you to a longer series.
- For Series Readers: Start with Archer (2020), which is Volume 1 of her landmark Lady Wynwood's Spies series. While there are prequels available, starting with Archer is the best way to immerse yourself in the main espionage plot and chemical mystery from the beginning.
The Lady Wynwood's Spies Series
This series is Camille Elliot's magnum opus: a projected 12-volume epic following a group of aristocratic spies in Regency England trying to stop a mysterious organization aiding Napoleon. The series stands out for its combination of historical detail, slow-burn romance, and light speculative/supernatural elements, such as dangerous alchemical potions.
Important Note on Format: Unlike many Regency romance series where each book focuses on a different couple and can be read out of order, Lady Wynwood's Spies is written as a continuous, serialized story. Individual volumes end on cliffhangers and build on the overall plot. You must read them in numerical order to understand the narrative.
The Prequels
Elliot has written three prequels that expand on the characters and history of the spy ring. They can be read before the main series or saved for later as companion stories:
- Lissa and the Spy (Free novella available via the author's newsletter, featuring Lissa and Keriah)
- The Spinster's Christmas (2015) - Lady Wynwood's Spies #0.5
- The Gentleman Thief (2020) - Lady Wynwood's Spies #0.6
The Main Volumes in Order
Read the main series sequentially. As of 2026, the series has reached Volume 9, with Volume 10 scheduled for later in the year:
- Archer (2020) – Volume 1 (introduces Phoebe Sauber and spy Michael Coulton-Jones)
- Berserker (2021) – Volume 2
- Aggressor (2021) – Volume 3
- Betrayer (2022) – Volume 4
- Prisoner (2022) – Volume 5
- Martyr (2023) – Volume 6
- Spinster (2024) – Volume 7
- Traitor (2025) – Volume 8
- Shelter (2026) – Volume 9
- Heir (Scheduled for late 2026) – Volume 10
The series will eventually be completed with Volumes 11 and 12.
Standalone Regency Suspense
Prelude for a Lord (2014)
This standalone novel introduces Lady Alethea Sutherton, a talented violinist defying societal expectations in Regency England. When an elusive thief targets her prized instrument, Alethea must team up with the traumatized, war-scarred Lord Dommick to uncover the truth. It is widely praised for its psychological depth and exploration of gender roles in historical society.
The Journeys of the Heart Anthology
In 2015, Camille Elliot participated in a collaborative historical romance anthology called Journeys of the Heart. It is important to note that while some listings group these stories together under Elliot's name, she only wrote the first novella in the collection:
- The Gentleman's Quest (2015) by Camille Elliot – Follows Honoria Dunbar and suspect Christopher Creager solving a murder at Heathcliffe Manor.
- The Road Home (2015) by Winnie Griggs (Collaborative author)
- The Trail Boss's Bride (2015) by Erica Vetsch (Collaborative author)
