Where to Start Reading C.K. Farrell
For readers new to C.K. Farrell's atmospheric fantasy and romance, the best starting point is Disenchanted, the first novel in the Celtic Vampyre Saga. While there is a prequel novella, starting with the first full-length book introduces the core conflict, the gothic tone, and the primary relationship between Faelynn LeCroix and Nathaniel Valour in the way the author originally intended.
The Celtic Vampyre Saga Reading Order
This series blends Irish folklore, gothic romance, and vampire mythology. It is best read in order of release, though you can choose where to insert the prequel.
Publication Order
- The Violet Hour (2012) – Prequel Novella (Book 0.5)
- Disenchanted (2012) – Book 1
- Nocturne (2012) – Book 2
- Consequences (2012) – Book 3
- Remembrance (2015) – Book 4
Chronological Order
If you prefer a chronological timeline, you can start with the prequel:
- The Violet Hour
- Disenchanted
- Nocturne
- Consequences
- Remembrance
Note on prequel placement: Reading The Violet Hour first provides early historical lore, but starting with Disenchanted allows the mystery of Nathaniel's secrets to unfold naturally.
The Chimera Trilogy
Despite the title, the Chimera Trilogy remains an incomplete series with only two published books. It should be read in chronological sequence:
- Delicate; or, The Devil Works in Mysterious Ways (2013)
- Fortunate; or, The Well of Inspiration by the Sycamore Tree (2013)
The Ashara Covenant
Farrell's newer dark fantasy work moves away from vampires into a high-fantasy universe known as Anansae:
- Augury (2026) – Book 1 of The Ashara Covenant
Practical Reader Advice and Caveats
You cannot read the Celtic Vampyre Saga or the Chimera Trilogy out of order; the narrative continuity in both series is tight, and later books contain major spoilers for previous entries. While the Celtic Vampyre Saga was once rumored to be a seven-book saga, it currently concludes its main story arc with Remembrance.
