Where to Start with Boyd Morrison
With a background as a NASA space station engineer, Jeopardy! champion, and professional actor, Boyd Morrison brings a unique blend of scientific precision and high-octane pacing to his fiction. If you are new to his work, your choice of starting point depends on your preferred subgenre:
- For Modern Techno-Thrillers: Start with The Ark (2009). This is the first book in his signature Tyler Locke series and perfectly showcases his signature style—think Dan Brown puzzles meeting James Rollins action.
- For Historical Action & Adventure: Start with The Lawless Land (2022). Co-authored with his sister, expert medievalist Beth Morrison, this book kicks off the Sword and Honour (also known as Tales of the Lawless Land) series, set in plague-ridden 14th-century Europe.
- For Nautical & Military Thrillers: Jump in with Piranha (2015). This is the tenth book in Clive Cussler's long-running Oregon Files series, but it marks the beginning of Morrison's six-book run as co-author.
Tyler Locke Books in Publication Order
The Tyler Locke series follows a brilliant former Army combat engineer who travels the world solving historical mysteries, ancient puzzles, and scientific conspiracies. While each book features a self-contained threat, it is best to read them in publication order to follow the character development and relationships.
- The Ark (2009) - Also published in the UK as The Noah's Ark Quest. Tyler races to stop a fanatic from using the remnants of Noah's Ark for global devastation.
- The Vault / The Midas Code (2011) - Also published under the title The Midas Code. Tyler must solve a puzzle left by King Midas to save his kidnapped father.
- The Roswell Conspiracy (2012) - Tyler investigates the truth behind the 1947 UFO crash and a missing retroengineered technology.
- The Loch Ness Legacy (2013) - Tyler searches for a secret kept by Charles Darwin hidden deep within Loch Ness.
Sword and Honour Books in Publication Order
Co-authored with his sister Beth Morrison, this series is set in 1351. The story features Gerard Fox, a disgraced knight who becomes a fugitive while trying to protect a woman with a dangerous secret. It combines meticulous historical accuracy with modern thriller pacing.
- The Lawless Land (2022)
- The Last True Templar (2023)
- The White Fortress (2025)
Note: A fourth volume, titled Duel of Beasts, is scheduled for publication in 2026.
The Oregon Files (Boyd Morrison's Contributions)
The Oregon Files is a massive shared universe originally created by Clive Cussler. The series features Juan Cabrillo and the crew of the high-tech spy ship, the Oregon. Boyd Morrison co-authored six consecutive books in the series from 2015 to 2020. You do not need to read the previous nine books to enjoy Morrison's entries, as they function perfectly as standalones.
- Piranha (2015) - Book 10
- The Emperor's Revenge (2017) - Book 11
- Typhoon Fury (2017) - Book 12
- Shadow Tyrants (2018) - Book 13
- Final Option (2019) - Book 14
- Marauder (2020) - Book 15
For completeness, the full publication order of the Oregon Files includes works by other authors before and after Morrison's tenure, such as Golden Buddha (2003) through Mirage (2013), and post-Morrison entries like Hellburner (2022), Fire Strike (2023), and Ghost Soldier (2024).
Standalone Novels
Morrison has also written standalone thrillers that are completely self-contained and can be read at any time:
- Rogue Wave (2010) - A disaster thriller following tsunami expert Kai Tanaka as a massive wave threatens Honolulu.
- The Catalyst / The Adamas Blueprint (2011) - Originally published as The Adamas Blueprint. A chemistry graduate student is hunted down after discovering a revolutionary chemical formula.
